The Mexica-Chichimeca or Aztec dance and music connects the natural world, human body and spirit with everything that exists.
Huehca Omeyocan Cultural Group is dedicated to promoting the art, culture, history, music, and dance of the Cem-Anahuac.
Founded in 2016 in McMinnville, Oregon, the group was established by artist, drummer, performer, and cultural enthusiast Eduardo Cruz Torres, alongside his wife, María Elena Cortés Durán, the group’s principal dancer.
Our mission is to bring communities together by fostering a meaningful connection between humanity, nature, and the cosmos. Through art, movement, sound, and education, we aim to inspire the search for and achievement of harmonic balance that helps us live in equilibrium and fullness.
The Mexica-Chichimeca (Aztec) dance and music tradition represents a deep connection between the natural world, the human body, and the spirit. It is a form of cosmic integration and is often regarded as a form of prayer. Huehca Omeyocan shares this tradition to offer our communities the opportunity to experience this powerful connection.
Our presentations are visually vibrant and captivating, featuring elaborate regalia adorned with feathers and ancestral symbols. Each element contributes to a performance that is both aesthetically striking and spiritually meaningful.
Music is an essential component of our performances. The rhythm is led by the huehuetl drum and may be complemented by the teponaztli (slit drum) to create a rich and balanced sound. Additional instruments include ceramic flutes, ocarinas, death whistles, wind whistles, and a variety of rattles made from stones, seeds, and bones—all working together to harmonize the rhythm on each and every dance.
Through art, dance, and music, we strive to remind communities that we are all interconnected—with one another and with everything in existence. Our performances express the movement of energy throughout the cosmos, offering a powerful and uplifting experience that we are honored to share.

El grupo fue fundado en 2016 en McMinnville, Oregon, por el artista, baterista, intérprete y entusiasta cultural Eduardo Cruz Torres, junto con su esposa y danzante principal, María Elena Cortés Durán.
Nuestra misión es unir a las comunidades fomentando una conexión profunda entre la humanidad, la naturaleza y el cosmos. A través del arte, el movimiento, el sonido y la educación, buscamos inspirar la búsqueda y el logro de la armonía, promoviendo una vida en equilibrio y plenitud.
La danza y música Mexica-Chichimeca (Azteca) representan una conexión profunda entre el mundo natural, el cuerpo humano y el espíritu. Es una integración cósmica y también ha sido considerada una forma de oración.
En Huehca Omeyocan compartimos esta tradición para brindar a nuestras comunidades la oportunidad de experimentar esta poderosa conexión.
Nuestras presentaciones son visualmente vibrantes y cautivadoras, destacando por el uso de vestimentas tradicionales adornadas con plumas y símbolos ancestrales. Cada elemento contribuye a una experiencia tanto estética como espiritualmente significativa.
La música es un componente esencial de nuestras presentaciones. El ritmo principal lo marca el tambor huehuetl, que puede combinarse con el teponaztli (tambor de hendidura) para crear una sonoridad más rica y equilibrada. También utilizamos flautas de cerámica, ocarinas, silbatos de la muerte, silbatos de viento y diversos tipos de sonajas hechas de piedras, semillas y huesos, que armonizan cada danza.
A través del Arte, la Danza y la Música, queremos que las comunidades sepan que todos estamos conectados unos con otros y con todo lo que existe en este mundo y en todo el universo, nuestra danza y música es una conexión poderosa que representa el movimiento de la energía en todas partes y a travéz del cosmos, es una experiencia maravillosa que compartimos felizmente con nuestras comunidades en nuestras presentaciones.
